External Rendering Across Scotland
External rendering gives a property a smooth or fine-textured, paintable finish rather than the traditional roughcast chip look. We advise on and apply the right system — traditional sand-and-cement, silicone, or K Rend — for your property and budget.

About external rendering
Modern rendering systems range from traditional two- or three-coat sand-and-cement render, finished smooth or textured and painted, through to proprietary through-coloured systems like K Rend and silicone render that don't need repainting. We can advise on which system suits a given substrate, exposure and budget.
Signs you need this
A tired, cracked or discoloured painted render, a bare-block extension waiting for a finish, or simply wanting a more contemporary look than a roughcast chip finish are common reasons homeowners look for a renderer. Existing roughcast or pebble dash can often be rendered over once it has been assessed as a sound substrate.
Options
Options typically include traditional smooth sand-and-cement render (painted), monocouche render, silicone render, and K Rend systems in a range of textures and through-colours. See our dedicated pages on K Rend, silicone rendering, and our roughcasting vs rendering guide for more on choosing between finishes.

External Rendering FAQs
What's the difference between rendering and roughcasting? +
Rendering typically gives a smooth or fine-textured finish, while roughcasting (harling) has a coarser, chip-textured finish. Both protect the wall from weather. See our full comparison guide for more detail.
Can you render over existing roughcast or pebble dash? +
Often yes, provided the existing finish is a sound substrate. We'll need to assess it first — loose or hollow sections usually need to be removed and repaired before rendering over the top.
Do you offer K Rend or silicone render? +
We offer K Rend and silicone render systems. See our dedicated K Rend and silicone rendering pages.
How do I get a rendering quote? +
Submit your postcode and project details through our quote form and we'll be in touch to arrange a quote.
